The Story of Turbo Tim's Northeast

Turbo Tim’s Anything Automotive has been doing auto repair in Minneapolis for over 15 years, but in 2014, Tim transformed an old furniture factory into a massive 20-bay auto repair shop at 2823 Central Ave NE.

With a can-do attitude and an incredible team, Turbo Tim’s has grown from a small, well-kept secret in Northeast Minneapolis to one of the Twin Cities’ premiere auto repair shops.

The Turbo Tim’s Minneapolis Northeast location isn’t just an awesome auto repair shop.  During the summers, our shop garden provides beautiful flowers for the neighborhood bees and tasty fruits and veggies, which we love sharing with customers.

Our cool little rain garden collects excess precipitation to improve the health of our waterways.  We even have a Little Free Library for all our literary-loving neighbors.

Of course the best part about our Northeast shop isn’t the skilled mechanics or helpful service writers.  It’s the kitties!  Our veteran crew is led by OG shop cat, Stevie, plus Brandon (the fat one), Bruce (the confused one), and Jose (the wild one).

Having the little furballs raises morale around the shop and we literally couldn’t imagine working without them!  Stop in and say hey to the cool cats and peeps who run the most rockin’ auto repair shop in the Twin Cities!

Hello. I want to tell you about my experience of cooperation with this auto repair shop. I completely liked how the mechanics did all the work that I asked for. I got the impression that this is a good and professional team. I especially want to note the girl whose name is Samantha. She works for the Desk front. He is a very kind, pleasant and sympathetic person. She tried in every possible way to help me and in detail, to explain everything and tell. Managers should appreciate and encourage such employees!

Alex was super helpful and had great guidance for what care he recommend for my car. The communication was great and being able to approve/deny recommended repairs on the website was so quick and convenient.

We broke up with our old mechanic during the ICE occupation and wanted to find a shop that didn't have Fox on in the lobby. Turbo Tim's has cats in their waiting room instead of hateful infotainment, which would honestly earn them 5 stars from me, but they go above and beyond with quality work, exceptional communication, and reasonable prices. They are transparent about the work that's needed immediately, the repairs that should to be done soon, and the things to keep an eye on. They won't upsell you or scare you into buying the expensive version of a part when the cheaper one is just as good. There's really nothing else I could ask for in a mechanic shop. I'm not a big bumper sticker person, but I proudly put the Turbo Tim's cat on my Subaru.

So, I’m torn in my review. Turbo Tim’s is staffed with possibly the nicest team imaginable. I strayed from my regular mechanic due to a scheduling issue, so I had a diagnostic at TTs. That’s where my service ended. While I’m sure the diagnostic was accurate, it really did not get to the bottom of the immediate issue, and basically opened the door to additional costly tests… they also told me I needed a new battery when this wasn’t the case at all… I chose to go to my regular mechanic the next day, and they immediately knew what was wrong. Of course, they are familiar with my vehicle… I can’t diss Turbo Tim’s at this point, but sometimes it pays to verify

Really good experience any time I've been to Turbo Tim's. Started going there because of the cats (duh) and their commitment to community involvement after I visited a queer pop up art market they hosted. But, they didn't disappoint on actually providing good car service. Provided me info on all the work needed regardless of what I put as my service need, in a super non pushy way, and actually gave me good feedback when I asked on what I should prioritize and what I can hold off on and tackle later/diy.

Great service, my car was over heating and has been for around 2 months+ took it to them originally and didnt get my problem fixed but after that they didnt give up and still kept it professional and kind and after all they offered to fix it for free which has saved me stress and worries and in all helped me a ton! 5 stars isnt even enough for what they deserve.

It breaks my heart to have to leave poor reviews on local businesses. I think of all the friendly staff I have seen in my years of being a customer at the establishment. I have been going to this location, as well as the Midway location for years. Every visit I had, I had some some sort of issue with. It ranged from my car getting smashed in, and staff acting like it was a normal, everyday occurrence, to them simply not fixing issues, and having to make repeat visits to the shop because of it. One time, they suggested taking a look at my wheels. When I received my car, a hubcap cover was very clearly screwed on incorrectly. It was very noticeable, but somehow went unaddressed by mechanics. I came back to get my oil changed, and asked them to fix the hubcap cover. My car was returned without a fixed hubcap cover that day. Today, I went to get my brakes fixed, and I purposely left the tire pressure low, just to see if it would be addressed. I paid $85 (a discounted rate) for brake inspection alone, and received my car with the same tire pressure light. Air is practically free, and at a lot of shops, so is a brake inspection. Not here. It's as though it was purposely ignored. I paid $85 for them to tell me my brakes were bad, as if I had no idea. I have officially switched mechanics as of today, and am in no way looking to return to Turbo Tims. I have had more, quality work done to my car in the past two hours of my life at another mechanic than I have in over three years at Turbo Tims. Although staff are friendly, I'd advise looking elsewhere for car repair needs. It's clear whoever is looking at your car doesn't care about you or your car in the slightest.

Turbo Tims are definitely professionals, however I chose not to get any work done there because their prices are very high… dealership high. They do a full inspection which is close to $130 by itself. They recommend getting things replaced that your vehicle may not necessarily need at that time. Even with just the things I went in for (brakes and control arms) they quoted me around $2,300. I spoke to my home technician who originally gave me a much cheaper estimate and called around other shops in the area and ultimately got what I needed done for $1000 cheaper. I’m sure their work is superb but I would definitely recommend calling other shops for estimates before you even pay for the inspection fee.

Had a great experience last week. We had dropped our car off and had things worked on by “J. Yang”. We were given good detailed notes along with recommendations on future services. Everything was speedy and professional. I would highly recommend. We used to go to Honda for our oil changes and service, but Turbo Tim’s has replaced Honda!

Very smooth and professional experience with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. I'm not sure how the cost of the services would compare to other shops, but I was very satisfied with the services I had done in my vehicle.

The West Saint Paul crew is not only very kind and welcoming but also extremely knowledgeable. They sit there and brake things down for you. I feel proud having Turbo Tim’s sticker on my car! Highly recommend them

TLDR: Waited 6 hours for an oil change, received zero communication, and spent $126. Had an appointment for a standard oil change at 8:30am and they told me it could take longer than 2 hours but they would text when my inspection is done. I’m waiting down the road and by 11:30 I haven’t heard anything so I walk back to check for updates- they haven’t even started the inspection yet! Three hours after my appointment began, and they didn’t give me any time frame for when they could start the actual oil change. Nor did they text an hour or two in letting me know Hey we haven’t started yet it will still be a while! So I use the free Lyft home, but it was unclear if they tip the driver or not so I had to use cash. Then it’s 1:30 and still nothing!! FIVE hours after my appointment and it was radio silence, so I call again. They finally text an update at 1:40pm saying they’re done and asking if I want them to perform any additional repairs or replacements, with again no time estimates on that?! So I took a Lyft back, tipped that driver in cash, and got my car back at 2:20pm. SIX hours after I brought it in. If they knew it could take this long, they should have warned me from the start so I can change my plans for the day. I had to call out of work at 1pm because I had no idea it would take this long and was receiving no communication. Not to mention, I’ve never had to pay $126 for an oil change. I understand if prices of oil have gone up, but they didn’t offer any first timer discounts, referral discounts, or apologize for the wait. Extremely disappointed in wasting my time and having to spend close to $150 for an oil change/tipping the lyft drivers, and having to call out of work for this. Again, the person helping did not apologize for the wait or warn me at the start “a little longer than 2 hours” could mean the whole day. The friend that referred me said it usually takes 2hrs. I also looked at the invoice and there’s a $17 “total fees” section that isn’t listed anywhere else or given a description for. I think I’m a reasonable person and didn’t make a scene about this, but I still have the right to be upset, I love supporting small businesses but I just can’t recommend this one in good faith :(

I went to the Turbo Tim’s in Mounds View before this one and always had a positive experience. This location is no different. I appreciate that they give a summarized report of maintenance that could potentially be done and always clearly state how much it’s expected to cost and when it’s anticipated to be done. My only regret with this location is I didn’t take time to pet their cat. 😞

Staff is kind and helpful. They can talk you through the services, but don’t try to talk you into them. The pricing was clear and affordable. The cats and complimentary Lyft ride home are an amazing bonus.
